Training programme for 'Situation Assessment Survey on Agricultural Households in Kerala' was held at Directorate of Economics & Statistics on 29 and 30 October 2024. The programme was conducted by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare with the technical support of DES. Director of Agriculture Smt. Adeela Abdulla inaugurated the programme. Director of Economics & Statistics Sri. Sreekumar B presided over the fucntion. Staff from the Directorate of Agriculture and staff from all district Statistical Offices were attended the trainign programme.

Director of Economics & Statistics Sri. Sreekumar has made a class on "A Panoptic View of State Statistical System". The MSc and PhD students in Statistics were attended this programme.

An orientation session for Post Graduate students in Nirmala College Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam was held at at Conference Hall in Nirmala College. Director of Economics & Statistics Sri. Sreekumar has made a class on "A Panoptic View of State Statistical System". The PG students in Ecomnomics, Statistics and Data Sciences were attended this programme. The insightful session was mainly focused on the scope and opportunities for statisticians, economists and data sceintists.
19 to 23 August 2024
Department has conducted exposure training programme to probationers of Indian Statistical Service (ISS) 45th batch (2023) at Directorate of Ecomnomics & Statistics from 19 to 23 August 2024. Two ISS probationers Sri. Shinde Shard Panchu from Maharashtra and Sri. Rahul Kumar Bagaria from Rajasthan have been attached to Kerala DES for exposure visit. In the opening ceremoney held at Directorate Conference Hall, Director Sri. Sreekumar B made a detailed presentation on State Statistical System, India Statistical Strengthening Project (ISSP), State Academy on Statistical Administration (SASA), Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC), Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), ICT initiatives and best practices of Kerala DES. Various section heads (Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors) handled classes on other topics viz. EARAS, Vital Statistics, State Income, ASI, IIP, Labour & Housing, MCCD, Survey & Studies, Cost of Cultivation survey, Evaluation survey and Local Level Statistics [Mission Antyodaya, BSLLD, etc.] during the training sessions. A field visit for the team conducted on 22 Aug 2024 to learn the crop cutting experiment conducted under EARS survey, data collection under Cost of Cultivation etc. The team also visited State Academy on Statistical Administration (SASA) and Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC) on 21 Aug 2024.
During the valedictory function held at Directorate Conference Hall on 23 AUg 2024, Addirtional Director (General) Sri. Vinodan T.P. presided over the function and distributed certificates and memento the probationers. Sri. manoj M, Additional Director (State Income) and Dr. K.G. Geetha, Additional Director (Prices) delivered falicitation address. Training Division coordinates the exposure programme. Sri. D.S. Shibukumar, Deputy Director & Traing Manager was the Nodal Officer and Sri. Hareesh, Regional Statistical Officer (SRS), Sri. Shibu B.T, Research Assistant and Sri. Brijesh C.J., Statistical Assistant were the coordinators for the whole arrangement of the programme.

In a function held at Collectorate Conference Hall Ernakulam on 19 July 2024, District Collector Sri. N S K Umesh has released the report on Happiness Level Survey conducted by District Office of Economics & Statistics at Ernakulam Civil Station. Director Sri. Sreekumar B presided over the function, staff of various government offices functioning in Civil Station compound were present during the event.

Sreekumar B presided over the function. Sri. Vinodan T.P., Additional Dirctor (Prices) made a welcome speech and Sri. manoj M, Additional Dirctor (State Income) made a short presentation of Evaluation of Census in the World and India. Thereafter Smt. Yamuna A.R, Deputy Director (Vital Statistics) made a presentation on Demography and Statistics. Sri.Hareesh, Regional Statistical Officer (Vital Statistics & Data Dissemination Unit) delivered Vote of Thanks.

Directorate of Economics & Statistics has conducetd an online meeting on 05-07-2024 with Heads of all Departments in Colleges and Universities in Kerala where Post Graduate Programmes in Statistics are being conducted. The main purpose of meeting was to explore the possibility of collaborating the department with academic institutions in research, applied statistics, internship programmes, knowledge and experience sharing etc. Director Sri. Sreekumar B chaired the meeting, about 22 colleges attended the meeting. Many of the partipants made fruitful suggestions for strengthening the official statistical system and academic statistics through intrenship, academic linkage, organising seminars and workshops, including a paper on official statistics in PG curriculum etc.Additional Directors, Joint Directors and officials of Data Dissemination Unit were attended the meeting. Deputy Directors in all district were also attended the meeting.

Department of Economics & Statistics celebrated 18th National Statistical Day on 29 June 2024, the birth anniversary of Sri. Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the Father of Indian Statistics. In this connection a programme was held at Diorectorate Conference Hall on 29-06-2024 at 10.00 AM. Dr. Saji Gopinath, Vice Chancellor of Digital University Kerala and APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University inaugurated the event. Drirector Sri. Sreekumar B presided over the function, Sri. P.C. Mohanan ISS (Rtd) delivered the key note address, Sri. M. Manoj, Aditional Director (State Income) made welcome address, Sri. Vineesh P.P., Deputy Director, NSO Regional Office Tiruvananthapuram delivered falicitations and Sri. Vinodan T.P, Additional Director (Prices) delivered Vote of Thanks. This year the theme for celebration was "Use of Data for Decision Making".
In this connection the directorate has organised Article writing Competition in the subject "Statistical Literacy- A need of Today" to students of MSc Statistics in all colleges in Kerala and on "Use of Data for Decision Making" to employees of Department of Economics & Statistics. Accordingly Sri. Adithyan M, MSc 2nd year student for School of Mathematics & Statistics, MG University, Kottayam won the the best prize on articles selected from students category and Sri. Abin Joseph, Research Officer won the the best prize on articles selected from employees category. They have been allowed to make presentation during the programme. They had been awarded with appreciation letter and a memento.

World Enviromnment Day was celebrated by the Department of Economics & Statistics on 5 June 2024. During a function organised at the Directorate Conference Hall, State Journalists Union General Secretary Sri. Kiran Babu inaugurated the event. Environmentalist Sri. U Ayyappan, Speaker and writer Sri. P.K. Anilkumar, social worker and lyricist Sri. Enchakkad Balachandran were the other guest. Director Sri. Sreekumar B, Additional Directors, Joint Director, Deputy Directors and all other staff were attended during the function. A Jack fruit sapling was planted symbolically during the event and later this was planted in the SASA premise at Kaimanam.

A one day workshop on Capacity Building and Data Dissemination on Agriculture Statistics was jointly organised by National Statistics Organiusation (NSO) FOD Thiruvananthapuram Region and Department of Economics & Statistics at Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Thiruvananthapuram on 20 March 2024. Sri. P.C. Mohanan, Chairman, Kerala State Statistical Commission inaugurate the workshop. Smt. Sunitha Bhaskar, DDG NSO and Sri. Sreekumar, Director DES, Senior officials from NSO and DES including district level EARAS officials were present the event.

As part of Internatiional Women's day on 8 March 2024, the Directorate of Economics & Statistics organised an one day celbration at Directorate Conference Hall on 7-03-2024. Smt. A.G. Oleena, Director, Kerala Literacy Mission inaugurated the event. Director, senior officers and all other staff in the directorate were present during the function.

Release of Compendium of Project Reports of the second batch of #AIFORALL Capacity Building in Artificial Intelligence & Data Analytics held at Digital University Kerala from 11th October to 21st December 2023 at IIITM-K, Tehchnopark. Dr. R. Bindhu Hon'ble Minister for Higher Ediucation handed over a copy of the report to Sri. Sreekumar B, Director of DES. The programme was organised by DUK. The main function was inauguration of the rennovated new buiulding of DUK at Technopark (IIITM-K) by Hon'ble CM Sri. Pinarayi Vijayan.
During the event, Sri. P. Rajeev, Hon'ble Minister for Industries & Coir handed over the final FRS of DUK project for EARAS to Sri. Sreekumar B, Director of DES. DUK officials and DES senior offcials also present.
5th to 8th February 2024
Annual Conference of Agricutlture Statistics (EARAS), EARAS mannual revision, Price Manual revision, and Cost of Cultivation Methodology revision were held at Directorate Conference hall from 5th to 8th February 2024. Kerala Statistical Commission Chairman Sri. P.C. Mohanan and Smt. Sunitha Bhaskar, DDG NSO Poonkulam are the Chief Guest during the inaugural ceremony held on first day.
During the last day of the conference Smt. Sarada Muraleedharan IAS ACS Planning & Economic Affairs was the Chief Guest and she has inaugurated the formal launch of the web portal for Consumer Price Index for Rural/ Urban & Combined.

Viswam, Agriculture Department Representative, Sri. Manoj. S, University of Kerala Representative Smt. Indulekha, Head of Department of Statistics, University of Kerala (Rtd) Sri. Somasekaran Pillai, 2023 Haritha Mitra Award winner (2023) for the best vegetable farmer of Kerala Government Sri. Sujith S.V. were also participated.
16th and 17th January 2024
A delegation of 10 officials form Department of Economics & Statistics in Nagaland State arrived in Thiruvananthapuram for an exposure visit to study the State Statistical System in Kerala. Sri. Mohammed Ali Shuhaib IAS, Secretary of Economics & Statistics and IT of Nagaland led the delegation. The DES team was headed by Sri. Nidhilhou Angami, Director of DES Nagaland and other 9 officers in the cadre of Deputy Director, Economics & Statistics Officer, Inspector of Statistics and Field Investigator. The study team visited the directorate and made interactions with the senior officers in the Directorate. The delegation also visited Kerala State Planning Board and made discussion with the Vice Chancellor Dr. V.K. Ramachandran on 16-01-2024. The team further visited IKM and SASA for familiarising the effective implementation of e-governance applications in decentralised govrenance and on capacity buidling initiatives of SASA.
