1.Workshop on Price Statistics held on 16th February 2023, Ernakulam
Ernakulam, February 16, 2023: A comprehensive workshop focusing on the intricacies of the data collection mechanism for price statistics was conducted in Ernakulam. The workshop received crucial technical support from the Price Statistics Division of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics , with the District Office of Economics and Statistics in Ernakulam taking charge of all arrangements.
Senior officers from the Directorate's price division, the Deputy Director, Additional District Officer from the District Office in Kozhikode, and various officers actively engaged in the price collection system in Ernakulam district participated in the one-day workshop.
The workshop was inaugurated by Ernakulam District Collector Smt. Renuraj IAS, who emphasized the significance of refining the data collection process for accurate price statistics. The Chairman of the Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC), Shri. PC Mohanan, delivered the keynote address, shedding light on the importance of robust data collection mechanisms in shaping informed economic policies. Shri. Sreekumar.B, Additional Director (Prices) of DES, presided over the workshop, guiding the discussions towards constructive outcomes. Throughout the workshop, participants delved into critical issues related to the data collection mechanism for price statistics.
2. Workshop on EARAS at THRISSUR on 17.02.23
Thrissur, 17th February 2023: The Kerala State Statistical Commission, in collaboration with the Department of Economics and Statistics, conducted a one-day workshop on EARAS (Establishment of an Agency for Reporting Agricultural Statistics ) at Vyapari Bhavan Hall, Thrissur.
The workshop aimed to address challenges and enhance understanding in the implementation of the EARAS scheme was inaugurated by Chairman, KSSC Shri.P.C.Mohanan. Shri. Sreekumar B, Additional Director (Prices), presided over the inaugural session, setting the tone for informative discussions.
The workshop focused on comprehending challenges faced by Statistical Investigators in collecting data under the EARAS scheme, identifying issues related to crop cutting experiments for various crops, and understanding the importance of cooperation and support from other relevant departments.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including the Joint Director (EARAS), and three Assistant Directors from the EARAS wing of the Directorate of Economics and Statistics Department. Deputy Director, Supervisory officers and field officers of the EARAS scheme in Thrissur district actively participated, contributing valuable insights and experiences to the discussions
Covering the methodology of the EARAS scheme, the workshop addressed cluster formation, area enumeration, yield estimation, and the preparation of advance estimates and forecast reports. The session also discussed the workload of primary workers and emphasized the cooperation required from the public.
3.Workshop on Price Data for Data Users at TVM on 17.03.23
Thiruvananthapuram, 17th March 2023: The Kerala State Statistical Commission, in collaboration with the Department of Economics and Statistics, conducted one-day workshop on Price Data for Data Users on 17th March 2023 at Model Finishing School, Thiruvananthapuram. The workshop aimed to evaluate the utilization and relevance of price data collected by the department, with a focus on enhancing collaboration with user departments and agencies.
Approximately 80 officials, including officers from user departments/agencies and district offices of E&S, actively participated in the workshop. Prof. V K Ramachandran, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board inaugurated the event . Shri. P.C. Mohanan ,Chairman of the State Statistical Commission, presided over the proceedings. Shri. Puneeth Kumar IAS, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Economic Affairs), and an ex-officio Member of the commission, delivered a special address, emphasizing the importance of data collaboration.
Shri. Sajeev P.P Director DES , and his team provided a comprehensive presentation on the various prices collected by the department, shedding light on their significance for data users.
Representatives from diverse organizations, including the Reserve Bank of India, State Agriculture Prices Board, Directorate of Health Services, Horticorp, Civil Supplies Department, Labour Department, All India Radio, and others, attended the workshop. The discussions focused on the detailed analysis of prices collected by the Department of Economics and Statistics (DES) and their relevance for various data users.
4.Workshop on State Income Statistics at TVM on 31.03.23 & 01.04.23
Thiruvananthapuram, March 31st - April 1st, 2023: The Kerala State Planning Board, Department of Economics and Statistics (DES), and Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC) jointly organized a National Workshop on State Income Statistics at Mascot Hotel, to examine the conceptual issues, data gaps and recommend improvements in the data and methodology in state income estimation
Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of Kerala, Shri. K.N. Balagopal, inaugurated the workshop, emphasizing the importance of accurate income statistics for informed economic policies. Prof. V K Ramachandran, Vice Chairman of the State Planning Board, presided over the meeting, guiding discussions toward constructive outcomes.
Eminent personalities and experts in the field actively participated in the workshop, contributing valuable insights to detailed presentations and discussions on Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary sector income estimation.
The workshop identified data gaps and methodological issues in the estimation of Gross State Value added in the State. To address these challenges, it was decided to constitute three study groups focusing on the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary sectors. These groups will critically study the existing methodologies and suggest measures to improve income statistics estimation in the State.
5. EARAS Workshop in Idukki
Idukki, 23rd November 2023: The Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC) organaised a workshop in Idukki district, specifically addressing the challenges encountered in implementing the EARAS Scheme in terrain areas. A subsequent field visit was organized on 24th November 2023.
The workshop, centered on the field difficulties associated with the EARAS Scheme, garnered enthusiastic participation from staff and officers of the Economics and Statistics Department in Idukki district. Sri. PC Mohanan, Chairman of KSSC, inaugurated the Workshop . Shri. Sreekumar.B, Director of DES (Department of Economics and Statistics), presiding over the event. Additional Director (Prices) Shri. Vinodan TP, Joint Director (EARAS) Smt. Haleema Begum .K, Deputy Director of Idukki District Smt. Marry George, Assistant Director of EARAS Smt. Bindhu, and Assistant Director KSSC Shri Ratheesh PN provided valuable insights during the ceremony.
Assistant Director Shri. Radhakrishna Pilla shed light on key issues encountered during the EARAS Survey. Simultaneously, Research Officer Shri. Ajeesh Joseph delivered a comprehensive presentation, addressing the challenges encountered in the EARAS Survey. Officers from all taluk offices in Idukki District also contributed by presenting their perspectives on the workshop.
The workshop extensively explored specific challenges related to fieldwork in Idukki, fostering detailed discussions among staff and officers from the Economics and Statistics Department. Taluk and District office representatives from Idukki provided clear insights into the challenges faced during fieldwork in their respective areas.
6. Workshop on EARAS and Cost of Cultivation in Alappuzha
Alappuzha, 23rd February 2024: The Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC) conducted a workshop on 23rd February 2024 in Alappuzha district, focusing on the challenges encountered in implementing the EARAS Scheme and the Cost of Cultivation Scheme. Following the workshop, a field visit took place on 24th February 2024.
The workshop, honing in on the field difficulties associated with the EARAS Scheme and the intricacies of the Cost of Cultivation Scheme, witnessed enthusiastic participation from staff and officers of the Economics and Statistics Department in Alappuzha district. The program commenced with the inauguration by Sri. PC Mohanan, Chairman of KSSC, Shri. B. Sreekumar, Director of DES (Department of Economics and Statistics) presided the event. Additional Director (Prices) Shri. Vinodan TP, Secretary of KSSC Smt.S Leeladevi., Deputy Director of Alappuzha Smt. Sumi.A.D, Assistant Director of Earas Smt. Bindhu, and Assistant Director KSSC Shri Ratheesh PN shared their insights during the inaugural ceremony.

Alapuzha . Staff from Taluks and District offices in Alappuzha provided clear insights into the challenges faced during fieldwork in their respective areas.
The workshop served as a platform for fruitful discussions and insights into the challenges faced in the implementation of the EARAS Scheme and the Cost of Cultivation Scheme. The active engagement of the Economics and Statistics Department staff and officers further enriched the knowledge-sharing session.
