The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is a plan of action for ‘People,Planet and Prosperity’, with 17 goals and 169 targets. With its emphasis on Poverty Eradication, Food Security, Health, Education, Gender Equality, access to Water and Sanitation and Employment, SDGs necessarily remain connected to integral goals habitat development.
Kerala's population has been historically distribributed more densely its western and central plains, and more sparsely in the Eastern, hilly regions.
Expansion of urbanization and economic activity is also correlated with population. The gender composition is relatively uniform across the districts.
However, population growth, and the young that may start participating in the workforce in 15 years timeframe seem to be favourably distributed the northern parts of the state.
While Malappuram and Palakkad have large non-working rural populations, Kerala's urban centers also have similar trends of low labour participation. While healthy rates of population growth are seen, efforts are required to increase labour participation to make this a positive for long term economic growth.
