Cost of Cultivation

Government of Kerala accorded sanction for conducting annual survey of cost of cultivation of important crops in the state from 1980-81 onwards vide G.O (Rt) 466/79/plg dated.27/10/1979.  The crops covered by the survey are Paddy (3 seasons), Coconut, Arecanut, Pepper, Banana, Tapioca, Ginger, Turmeric, Bitter Guard (3 Seasons), Cowpea (3 seasons), Pineapple and Cardamom (Idukki, Palakkad and Wayanad district only). The main objective of this survey is to estimate the per hectare cost of cultivation of important crops in Kerala.

 The data collected from this survey are used for the implementation of various schemes in the Agricultural Sector, to draw up realistic plans for the development of various crops, diversification of cropping patterns and maximization of net returns. Moreover these data are used by the state and central governments to fix floor support prices for agricultural commodities and GSDP estimation.
